The Cottage

Coombes cottage has rustic mud brick charm with modern comforts Befitting its pioneer heritage, the cottage’s living area is timber lined with a stunning ceiling of macrocapa, one of the most eco-friendly timbers New Zealand produces. The ensuite continues the timber theme but with painted walls and ceiling and a spacious wet area shower.

Separating Coombes Cottage from much of the accommodation available on or near the Rail Trail is a deep claw foot bath – pure bliss for relaxing tired muscles or just luxuriating with a wine close to hand. The very roomy studio type main room suits a couple or two singles and is furnished with a comfortable queen bed, with a single available as well if needed.

A bar fridge, bench top oven, hot plate, barbeque, and toaster ensure that you will able to cook for yourselves during your stay. Tea making facilities are available and everything needed to make a cuppa. Vintage lounge and dining furniture complete the picture inside. A new installed open fire adds ambience and warmth to the charming main room.

The rustic mud brick exterior walls remain from a bygone era and recycled doors and windows have been sourced from Christchurch to begin a new life as part of the cottage. This well insulated timber lined building will keep you cool in summer and warm on winter evenings. Weddings

The picturesque St Bathans area is rapidly becoming a very popular wedding venue. Coombes Cottage has recently been used both as a Bride’s retreat, and a Honeymoon hideaway. If more room is needed we can arrange extra local accommodation for you. Contact us if you have any enquires for your wedding.

PLEASE NOTE : Food and Fuel :

There are no shops near St Bathans so it’s important to be aware that you need to shop for food and fuel on your way. If you are coming from Queenstown the last place is Alexandra which has a New World supermarket. There is a dairy and gas station at Omakau in emergency though if you miss Alexandra. If you are coming from Dunedin or the East the last stop is Ranfurly, with a good selection of goods at the Maniototo Four Square and a fuel station.
